SOMMER CABLE DVM 194 Series
Conference Room Solutions
The demands on modern conference and training rooms have changed completely over the past few years. Even in small rooms we expect a perfectly working media integration these days. For instance, the room should automatically go to standby on time with the beginning of the seminar or the meeting, turn on e.g. the beamer lamp, depending on the resource booking, wake up the amplifier, the mixing desk and other devices from standby mode and adjust the illumination. In the ideal case the same steps should be carried out again in the reverse order at the end of the event. Especially in view of today’s energy debates, saving energy by automated standby activation is becoming more and more important.
So far, all this could only be realised by means of very expensive and extremely complex media control systems. With the CARDINAL DVM 194 series SOMMER CABLE is presenting a new, very reasonably priced and fully modular device generation which offers an unprecedented flexibility!
“The customer response was encouraging when the DVM 194 series was introduced at the ISE in 2013“, says Peter Rieck, Key Account & Distribution Manager with SOMMER CABLE. “Since the interest did not fade, we were refining the prototypes last year and can now present a DVM 194 series which will hit the market with a lot of extra features", concludes Rieck.
All devices are fully assimilable into the IP environment, have a LAN link out for structured wiring (built-in 2 port 100 Base-T switch) and are based on the same controller platform. The use of variable instruction sets ensures full compatibility with most common devices on the market (also with “large“ media controllers, building technology BUS systems, displays, beamers etc). Set-up is quickly done without programming skills through the integrated web interface – like e.g. on your internet router at home. A pre-programmed “plug and play“ solution is also available. Via this IP interface maintenance and surveillance can also be remotely controlled, which in case of service will allow a fast and efficient troubleshooting process.
The devices are mechanically fully compatible with the DIN 41494 and can therefore be integrated into the popular SYSBOXX housing system from SOMMER CABLE. A 2 RU frame will accept up to 4 devices with an installation depth of a mere 140 mm!
The voltage supply for the entire CARDINAL DVM 194 family is established using 24 V system power supplies, which can be mounted equally into the SYSBOXX frame.
The CARDINAL DVM 194 series is a complete device line which has been developed for the requirements in many sectors. It can be used both as a fully closed system and as an open solution with free interfaces. The devices are intelligent and will recognise each other with the network. Functions across multiple room or even buildings (like e.g. put all displays and beamers in the whole building into stand-by mode) are very easy to programme.
Device Overview
The DVM-194-CON Media Controller is the heart of the DVM 194 series, establishing the connectivity for the media and input devices. Via the web interface instruction macros can be freely defined and entire instruction sequences created. Four RS232 interfaces allow a bi-directional communication with the connected devices – e.g. the checkback signal from the beamer that the lamp needs to be replaced. Via the TCP interface multiroom functions can be programmed easily. The four integrated relay contacts can control e.g. a motor-driven canvas, a beamer lift or the blackout equipment. There are 12 momentary switch interfaces and 12 freely programmable LED outputs. The connections are fitted with Euroblock screw terminals.
The DVM-194-AMP Mini High-Performance Amplifier delivers 2 x 100 watts into 4 ohms (50 W @ 8 ohms) and with a cubic content of less than one litre (35 fl oz) it is a true performance miracle! This is provided by the latest class D power amp technology with passive cooling, which owing to its high efficiency produces almost no waste heat. The full remote controllability (standby/operation, DSP functions) as well as the local operability via a high-resolution display with intuitive menu navigation make this amplifier your first choice.
The LAN interface allows to monitor the operating status of the device (temperature, clipping etc) at any time. The built-in DSP allows up to 5 fully parametric filters, one delay plus level control per channel. The rear input and output on each channel have Euroblock connections. A 100 V transformer unit is optionally available as an external appliance.
The “DVM-194-AMIX Automatic Mix Machine“ makes the installer’s long-cherished dreams come true. Since most operating parameters are fully controllable, an unprecedented degree of automation can be achieved. For instance, the gain and level are adjustable on all channels. And you can also kick in an automatic level control on the microphone channels to keep the level at the desired preset value fully automatically. Therefore the equipment may also be used as discussion system – including external control – or for telephone or video conferences.
There are two mix buses and one docking bus. The docking bus enables a multiroom connection of several systems, e.g. to make announcements or play background music from a central point or implement a modular room concept. Just like on the amplifier you can perform all the settings locally on the device via a high-resolution display with intuitive menu navigation. There are four microphone inputs plus three line inputs (one of them digital as SPDIF). The four microphone inputs are additionally equipped with a parametric high-pass filter and a tone control section.
The DVM-194-HDS Picture Source Selector can route up to four HDMI picture sources to two HDMI outputs and is very different from most low-budget alternatives on the market. For instance, the device can be fully integrated into the LAN environment and the DVM-194 network. This allows a total automation via the media controller and hence external momentary switches or e.g. the interactive SYSDESK-IA connection panel without much ado. The device may also be operated directly via four LED-lit buttons, furthermore the device can also be used in auto sense mode.
Optionally available is an HDBaseT module, which is put in parallel to the second HDMI output. The HDBaseT data stream tunnels the LAN signal from the DVM-194-HDS and also RS232 and infrared commands, which can be programmed via the media controller. This allows to control the connected beamer or display through the DVM-194 network. The audio signal is gathered from the HDMI data stream and is present in digital form at the SPDIF output.
The manually controlled DVM-194-MIX Analogue Mixer is perfectly suited for use in the catering trade, retail business or in public facilities. The few controls on the front panel considerably lower the risk of an incorrect operation by laymen. Each channel has only a volume control on the front panel, discretely adjustable for each output zone. In addition the two microphone channels feature a tone control and a dual LED level indicator. Above the two Zone Master controls the overall level is indicated by an 8-segment LED bar graph for each zone.
The DVM-194-AF Interactive Connection Panel is based on the well-known SYSDESK09 desk connection panel and features an additional push-to-lift function. The surface is made of a semi- transparent hightech plastic material and equipped with an LED backlight. The print from the reverse side creates a particularly high-class visual appearance. The labelling including the colour scheme may be freely selected, whereby a customer logo and also the desired fonts may be used. 10 freely programmable touch keys allow a totally individual solution.
