BOOM Library today announced the release of TACTICAL GUNS, a professional firearms sound effects library built around a single premise: every weapon included is carried by police, issued to armies, or used by criminals. Rather than sorting content purely by caliber, the library ties each recording to who actually carries the weapon, for use across crime drama, military film and television, and tactical game audio.
Every weapon's service record was checked against public sources during research. Where that record couldn't be verified, the library describes the weapon by sound and specification only, with no unsupported claim attached. The result is a 25-weapon collection spanning pistols, a revolver, assault rifles, sniper and designated-marksman rifles, submachine guns, machine guns, and shotguns, each recorded at multiple distances, from point-blank out to 100 meters, across up to 28 mic channels.
"With our previous firearm libraries we picked weapons used by the military in some of the world’s most major conflicts," said Axel Rohrbach, founder and creative director at BOOM Library. "But actually this does not represent firearms usage in media very well. Much more interesting and more common in media is the firearms use of law enforcement, squad teams, special forces and in criminal activities. That is why we tried to find the biggest common ground for the selection of weapons for this library."
TACTICAL GUNS ships in three editions. The Construction Kit contains over 9,000 individual shot recordings for all 25 weapons at multiple distances, captured across up to 28 mic channels: DPA 4062 mics on the collar and wrist (0m), AB pairs at 1m/2m/3m (Sennheiser MKH 416, Audix D6 between shooter and muzzle, DPA 4007), MS pairs at 5m/15m (Sanken CMS50, Sennheiser MKH8050/MKH30), XY pairs at 5m/100m (Sennheiser MKH8050, Sony PCM), and 3D capture from Schoeps ORTF3D (20m) and Sennheiser AMBEO VR (50m), delivered across eight named perspectives per shot. It also includes matched handling recordings (grab, magazine in/out, mode and safety, reload) for nearly every weapon. Two substitutions are disclosed rather than left unstated: the Kel-Tec KSG uses SPAS-15 handling, and the Tavor TAR-21 uses AKS-74U handling.
The Designed layer contains 850+ pre-assembled Close, Distant, Heavy, and Mechanical mixes per weapon category, built from the same Construction Kit material across single shots, bursts, and full auto. The Bundle includes both editions. Every weapon was fired at multiple distances, from point-blank out to 100 meters, with up to 28 mic channels capturing simultaneously on every take. Handling was recorded as a separate pass per weapon wherever a dedicated session was possible, giving sound designers the mechanical detail, the mag change, the safety click, the grip adjustment, that plays before a shot ever fires.
TACTICAL GUNS is delivered as WAV files at 96kHz/24-bit with UCS-compliant metadata. The library integrates directly into Wwise and FMOD game audio middleware pipelines and is compatible with all major DAWs, video editing software, and professional audio management tools. All content is royalty-free under a perpetual license covering commercial use across film, television, advertising, and games.
