CEDAR Icons

CEDAR StageVox

For more than 36 years, CEDAR has been renowned for its groundbreaking audio processing, whether in hardware, software, dedicated systems or through 3rd-party collaborations with some of the biggest names in the industry. Today, CEDAR announces the next step forward in CEDAR products: CEDAR icons. Taking many of the best and most successful CEDAR processes from the past and adding new ones that develop the art and science of audio processing even further, icons are VST3/AU/AAX compatible plug-ins that will be available for download from CEDAR’s new on-line shop. With attractive new pricing, they will bring our products to a whole new generation (and a much wider customer-base) of potential users who have never had the opportunity to own or use CEDAR in the past.

CEDAR are anticipating on-line sales to be significantly higher at our new prices so, in a major change, CEDAR is expanding their on-line shop so that customers can purchase, download and install their icons immediately. Of course, they will also be able to take advantage of our free trials, which allow them to run completely unencumbered products for 14 days at no cost.

CEDAR will also be adding some of the most highly respected CEDAR Studio 9 processes to the shop as well as their Forensic Enhance plug-in, which is designed to increase the intelligibility of badly degraded recordings. All of these will be available at new prices that will bring CEDAR to a whole new generation of live sound engineers, studio and post engineers, podcasters and more.

To support all of the above, CEDAR have spent the last six months creating a new website at the website that is clearer, brighter and more navigable. This will be revealed on the same day as CEDAR launches the icons. On 7th April 202,5 CEDAR will be launching the first eight icons, with more to follow during the course of the year.

These fall into two groups:

  • Live Sound series: Offering near-zero latency for live sound and live-to-air use.
  • Production series: Concentrating on post in all of its forms.

The Live Sound Series

CEDAR StageVox

Recognising the need for a near-zero latency noise reduction plug-in designed specifically for singers, CEDAR developed StageVox, which does for singing what their dialogue noise suppressors do for speech. StageVox is based on their Quantum technology, which is essential if you want to eliminate noise when working with live sound and tracking. It’s also great for mixing and mastering. Not only does it reduce noise, it also suppresses excessive reverberation, and it’s so efficient that you can run as many simultaneous instances as you need. CEDAR’s high-end noise suppression is used on major tours by artists including Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams, The Jonas Brothers, Kylie Minogue, Rod Stewart and Girls Aloud. A new generation of users will now be able to add their names to that illustrious list with StageVox – it’s simple, it’s flexible, and it sounds great.

CEDAR ScreenVox

CEDAR invented the digital dialogue noise suppressor. This transformed noise reduction in film & TV production, post, newscasting and sports reporting. Amongst other accolades, it won an Academy Award for services to the movie industry. Today, there’s ScreenVox, a dedicated plug-in for the spoken word which, thanks to the latest advances in their Quantum near-zero latency dialogue noise reduction, ensures no loss of lip-sync. You can use ScreenVox in all scenarios including live sound, broadcasting, podcasting, post-production and archiving. Whether you’re working in a small home studio or performing live on the largest soundstages, ScreenVox is incredibly simple to use, and it offers world-class performance, suppressing background noise from speech for podcasts, YouTube videos, documentaries, dramas, and even next year’s highest grossing movies.

CEDAR DNS One

CEDAR DNS One

When CEDAR received an Academy Award for transforming dialogue noise suppression in film post-production, the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences stated that the DNS1000 could “be found on virtually all dubbing stages worldwide, and has become the tool of choice for removing unwanted noise by re-recording mixers everywhere”. Today, the latest version of DNS has evolved further than ever before. With CEDAR’s unique LEARN capability and controls to determine the range of frequencies to be processed, it offers users the ability to process the whole audio spectrum or focus on specific problems. If you’re working in post or anywhere else where near-zero latency is a requirement, the Quantum powered dialogue noise suppression in DNS One remains a legendary process trusted by the most demanding audio professionals.

The Production Series

CEDAR Adaptive Limiter 2

CEDAR Adaptive Limiter

Unlike a conventional single- or multi-band limiter, their Emmy Award winning Adaptive Limiter 2 employs a unique algorithm called CEDAR Spectral Limiting. This calculates a continuingly varying EQ profile that accurately constrains the amplitude for beautifully transparent, precise and highly musical limiting that retains the integrity of the audio. With controls to determine how quickly the profile varies in time and the amount by which it can vary from frequency to frequency, Adaptive Limiter 2 offers new flavours of dynamic control that are capable of pushing the audio further than ever before. It sounds great on individual instruments, vocals and stems for both limiting and maximising, and is ideal as the final process in anyone’s mastering chain. It may not be the only limiter CEDAR customers own, but there’s a good chance that it will be their favourite.

CEDAR VoicEX 2

Based upon CEDAR’s latest advances in marrying cutting-edge DSP and AI-based audio processing, VoicEX 2 sets a new standard for real-time noise reduction and the elimination of unwanted reverb. Requiring much lower processing power than the original VoicEX and with an improved response as the signal-to-noise ratio deteriorates, it's close to being a magic button and yet it's so simple to use that novices and experts alike can achieve remarkable results with minimal effort. Where users might expect numerous controls, they’ll find find just two – one to determine the loudness of the background, and the other to control the loudness of the speech. Reduce the former to make noise and excessive reverberation go away. Reduce the latter, and the voices go away. Increase either to emphasise that part of the signal. It may be simple, but the results can be truly stunning.

CEDAR Declip

CEDAR Declip 2

Clipping occurs when a piece of equipment or a medium carrying a signal is unable to handle a high level presented at its input, and will usually be heard as a harsh distortion that increases in intensity as the clipping becomes heavier. Declip effortlessly removes the clipped samples and reconstructs the signal that would have existed had the clipping not occurred. Not only does this eliminate the distortion, it improves the clarity of both music and speech, restoring the original dynamic range of the damaged audio to breathe new life into previously unsalvageable recordings. In its Auto mode, Declip will even track the clipping amplitude so that material that has been processed with dynamics packages after clipping has occurred can still be saved. If audio engineers ever encounter clipping, Declip is the solution to the problem.

CEDAR Declick

When real-time digital audio processing was thought by many to be impossible, CEDAR invented the digital declicker. Trusted by major record companies, mastering studios and sound archives everywhere, this helped to establish CEDAR as a world leader in the audio field. Over the years, CEDAR declickers have rescued innumerable recordings, removing scratches, clicks and ticks to restore the integrity of the originals. Of course, declicking isn’t confined to removing scratches from old records; you can encounter clicks and ticks almost anywhere, but the performance of their Emmy Award winning declick technology can make it impossible to tell that the audio was ever damaged in the first place. When working with valuable material, CEDAR Declick will be an invaluable addition to CEDAR users’ studio toolboxes.

CEDAR Decrackle

CEDAR invented the Split & Recombine decrackle algorithm that many have tried to copy but none have equalled. This unique technology splits the audio into two signals, one containing primarily crackle and the other containing only wanted audio. The crackle can then be removed and the signals recombined seamlessly to produce a clean, uncompromised output. The Emmy Award winning Decrackle process has been used to restore the audio for innumerable music recordings, movie soundtracks and vintage TV shows. Yet using it couldn’t be simpler, with just a single control that allows users to determine the amount of crackle removed. Sometimes there’s just no other way to restore the audio; users may not need to it for every job but, when they’re restoring invaluable recordings, there will be times when nothing else will do.

CEDAR Studio 9

CEDAR Retouch

CEDAR Studio9 Retouch

Unlike conventional restoration tools, Retouch provides a wide range of spectral editing capabilities. This enables you to mark and process complex areas in its spectrogram using the types of tools commonly found in powerful photographic and image manipulation software, and makes it possible to identify all manner of sounds and noises which can then be manipulated using any of the processing tools at your disposal. With its enhanced capabilities and AI tools, Retouch stands alone as the spectral editor of choice for mastering studios, mix suites, post houses, forensic laboratories, and anyone else who needs to be able to identify, isolate and manipulate individual sounds within an audio file. When all else fails... Retouch gives you complete control.

CEDAR Auto Dehiss

Auto Dehiss embodies an advanced algorithm that is far less susceptible to generating the unwanted side-effects sometimes called twittering, glugging, the 'underwater sound', and even 'space monkeys'. It's able to determine the hiss and remove it without the introduction of these artefacts. A manual mode is also offered for fine-tuning the processing when wanted.

CEDAR Debuzz

Debuzz quickly and easily removes all manner of buzzes and hums with fundamentals as high as 500Hz, and it can eliminate unwanted signal components across the entire audio spectrum. It will track wandering tones and, unlike traditional buzz filtering, can successfully restore the audio without unwanted side-effects such as limited bandwidth or the hollow sound introduced by comb filters.

CEDAR Manual Declick

Manual Declick is ideal for restoring the extended scratches and clicks encountered on many audio media - film, tape or disk, whether analogue or digital. Its two unique algorithms - optimised for long clicks and scratches - will remove noises such as those found on optical soundtracks, as well as drop-outs and extended digital errors.

CEDAR Dethump

Dethump eliminates the extended low-frequency thumps that cannot be restored using conventional declickers and filters. It replaces the unwanted sound with restored low frequency audio and is the ideal tool for removing many of the previously intractable problems associated with modern recordings when, for example, microphones and stands are bumped, as well as the noises found on optical soundtracks, cylinders, and 78rpm discs.

Forensic Enhance

CEDAR Forensic Enhance

CEDAR Forensic Enhance

Compatible with all common audio and video playback and editing platforms, Forensic Enhance is an effective audio forensic toolkit comprising four complementary processes that suppress noise and enhance speech to increase intelligibility. Designed primarily for speech enhancement in the forensic laboratory, Forensic Enhance allows novices and experts alike to clean difficult material to a standard that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago.

Some of the icons build upon CEDAR’s decades-long expertise in mixing, mastering and audio restoration. CEDAR have therefore ensured that, on AAX and VST hosts, they are compatible with the processes that they supersede. So, for example, if you have a complex session that uses multiple channels of DNS One, you don’t have to set this up again. Just download and install the icons DNS One and launch the session. Everything will load as before and function correctly so that you can continue working with no interruptions.
